A useful upsell is not just a bigger order. It should make sense for the shopper and protect the merchant's margin.

Start with three questions

  1. Does this add-on naturally fit the product the shopper is viewing?
  2. Does the offer protect margin instead of hiding cost behind higher revenue?
  3. Can the merchant verify real customer interest before building a bigger campaign?

Good first offers

Good early upsell pairs are usually practical add-ons: accessories, refills, care products, replacement parts, or small companion items that make the main purchase better.

What to avoid

Avoid irrelevant offers, aggressive discounts, and dashboards that only celebrate revenue while ignoring whether the offer actually helps the merchant.
